BOB VANTREIGHT

1985 INDUCTEE

* Bob began his racing career in the late 1940's at Victoria's Langford Speedway.

* He comes from a family that was involved in the sport, so his interest and knowledge grew as a natural process. His brother competed regularly in a big (Sprint) car at Langford Speedway.

* He is primarily recognized as a fierce competitor behind the scenes, as he has been involved with owning, constructing and maintaining his own cars for many years.

* He also served as a crew member for Billy Foster in the early 1960's.

* Although Bob was frequently working on a limited budget, his true racing heritage always seemed to come through as he always seemed to be able to somehow field a race car.

* Bob turned his attentions from Stock Cars to Modifieds in 1964 and built a GMC-powered car for Dick Varley to pilot.

* He has since built numerous Super Modified cars and each one has proven to be more sophisticated and competitive than the previous model.

* In addition to competing at Victoria's Western Speedway, Bob's cars have expanded their horizons to most of the venues throughout the Pacific Northwest.

* Bob has been linked with some very well known drivers over his career in the sport. Drivers such as Billy Foster, Dick Varley, Al Smith, Ray Pottinger and most recently his son, Gerry (who is carrying on the family tradition by driving Bob's current car).
