* Began his Auto Racing career in 1961 when he teamed up with Alex Smith and Rob Duncan with a 1934 Ford Stock Car. He only drove the car once, rolling it over, thus ending his driving career. Rob Duncan was the driver. * After taking a brief break to start his family,
he returned to racing in 1964, crewing on a 1951 Dodge Coupe driven by
Fred Best. The crew campaigned this * In 1968, the crew switched to a very quick
Super Modified race car purchased from Ray Pottinger. They competed on
the Inter-city Modified Circuit as well as in * He then teamed up with Roy Haslam in 1970 and was with him until 1981. * In 1970, he was awarded the Dick Willoughby
Sportsmanship Trophy, and the following year he helped build the weigh
scales at Western Speedway (still in * In 1973 he served as Vice-President of the Vancouver Island Track Racing Ass'n. * In his years with Roy, the records speak for themselves (refer to Inductee Roy Haslam's biography). * Some other highlights were: in 1975 they went racing at Las Vegas. Out of the 148 cars that qualified, they finished 3rd in the Main Event. * In 1978 they went to Chicago to pick up a new race car, which eventually gave them victory in the International Drivers Challenge. * In 1980, they travelled to the Minnesota State Fair and also to the Marty Robbins Open in Nashville to compete. * In his last year with Roy, they won the 1981 Speedweek Northwest Championship as well as the Canada 200. * He then took several years away from active competition to devote time to his growing family and to build a successful business. He was an avid NASCAR fan and travelled to Daytona, Charlotte, Las Vegas, Sears Point, Fontana, Martinsville, Texas and North Wilksboro, just to name a few. * In 1996, he became very interested in Trevor Montgomery's NSSRA Sprint Car and joined the crew with Neil Montgomery and Russell Lejeune. The team won the Daffodil Cup and the NSSRA Championship. * In 1997, he was on the Promotions Committee for NSSRA and helped bring a field of cars to Saratoga and Western Speedways. He received a Promotions Trophy at the year-end banquet. He continued on the car crew as well as a Director for NSSRA until his untimely passing in June, 1999. |
