* Roy started race cars at Victoria's Western Speedway in 1964. * In 1967, he followed in older brother Al's footsteps and graduated to the more powerful and sophisticated Super Modifieds. * Roy won the Inter-City Modified Series championship
in 1968, was fourth in points on the Northwest Canadian American Modified
Racing Association (C.A.M.R.A.) * He repeated as Inter-City Modified Series champion in 1969. * Was again Inter-City champion and won the Strawberry Cup race in Victoria in 1970. * 1971 saw Roy win all three major modified races in Victoria. The Daffodil Cup, the Strawberry Cup and the Billy Foster 100 (again in 1972). * He set a track record at Victoria on May 19, 1973 (15.67) and won the Billy Foster 100 trophy. * He won the Billy Foster 100 trophy and was crowned International Driving Challenge champion for both 1974 and 1975. * He made the switch to Late Model Stock Cars in 1976 and appeared at the Daytona 500 for the first time, finishing 22nd. * Roy won the 1977 Strawberry Cup in his modified race car. * He returned to the Daytona 500 in 1978, finishing in 20th position. * In 1980 he ran an open Late Model Stock Car,
set a track record at Victoria (16.35), and won the Canada 200 race. He
was also crowned the NASCAR Winston West Points * He repeated as NASCAR Winston West Points Champion. * 1982 saw Roy make his third visit to the Daytona
500 race. This time, he was sponsored by his many fans and corporations
in the city of Victoria. He finished * From 1983 to the present, Roy has competed
on a somewhat limited basis. He is still winning his share of races throughout
the Pacific Northwest and is always a threat whenever he appears. |
