TREVOR MONTGOMERY

2008 INDUCTEE

After competing in BMX bike racing and helping his dad with his race car, he began his racing carer at age 16 in the Western Speedway Street Stock class where he won 10 out of 18 races and won back to back championships in 1987 and 1988.  At age 19 he moved up to the IMCA Modifieds.  He was the Western Speedway Champion in 1989 and the Canadian IMCA Champion in 1991.  He also had two second place IMCA championship runs.
His first sprint car ride saw him compete on the dirt at Nanaimo’s Cassidy Speedway.  He earned a 3rd and a 2nd place in the yearly points chanmpionships.  He then moved to pavement sprint cars at age 26.  He became the first Canadian sprint car winner at Calgary’s Race City Speedway.  He then began competing with the NSSRA (Northwest Supermodified and Sprint Car Association) where he established himself as a very talented and dedicated racer.  He set the all time track records at Campbell River’s Saratoga Speedway  at 12.90.  He also set the all time track record at Victoria’s Western Speedway at 13.31.  This broke Davey Hamilton’s old record which was set seven years previously with a Super Modified.  He set fast times at various Northwest tracks.  His last sprint car was built by Victoria’s Russ Lejeune who also served as a crew member on the NSSRA circuit.  His father also built the engines for this race car.  They won eleven of eighteen races held over a two year period.
In 1997, he won the prestigious Daffodil Cup race in Victoria, a feat he again accomplished in 1999 and again in 2003.  He also won the Strawberry Cup race in 1998 and 2002.  While competing on the NSSRA circuit, he won the season points championship in 1997.  He was the first Canadian to succeed in this series and he clinched it in front of his hometown fans at Western Speedway.  He won his second NSSRA title in 1998 at the Tri Cities Speedway in Washington.  In 1999, his third place finish at the last race at Meridian Speedway in Boise, Idaho earned him his third NSSRA points title which he clinched despite missing one race during the year.
With fifty plus feature race wins and numerous other awards received over his career, he has established himself as one of the premier race car drivers in the Pacific Northwest.
We are now honoured to welcome Trevor Montgomery into the Victoria Auto Racing Hall of Fame.
